FAQ
Q. How to select a suitable brush grade?
A. The most important
aspects in order to justify the performance of a brush grade are included
commutation behaviour, wear resistance, overload capacity, behaviour at
low loads, film formation capacity and current sharing capacity.
Due to physical reasons it is not possible that a brush grade matches
each of this points. For instance: good commutation behaviour and good
performance at low load are excluding each other.
Grade selection is
always a compromise. One has to look which real problem has to be solved.
A lot of experience is necessary in order to select the right brush grade
for a particular machine or application. One should not hesitate to ask
a brush expert.
Q.
Against which counterpart materials carbon graphite materials can be applied
in tribological applications?
A. Carbon graphite materials can be applied against all
sufficiently hard counterpart materials, including steel.
Q.
In which media carbon graphite materials are chemically resistant?
A. Carbon graphite materials can be applied in almost every medium.
Only strongly oxidizing media as well as impregnating agents can limit
the chemical resistance of carbon graphite materials.
Q.
Which application temperatures are possible?
A. Depending on the material, the application temperature in air
is up to 350°C. In some applications even
600°C are possible. Under inert conditions
the application temperature is only determined by the heating temperatures
(carbon graphite: 1100°C, electro-graphite:
2500°C). Probably existing impregnating
agents may also influence the heat resistance of the material.
Q.
Can the materials be applied in dry running conditions?
A. Yes, our materials contain graphite, which is a solid lubricant.
Special materials are available for applications in vacuum or in absolutely
dry gases.
Q.
In which sizes the components can be manufactured?
A. Segmental seal rings up to a radius of 9000mm, antimony impregnated
parts up to a diameter of 630mm, resin impregnated parts up to a diameter
of 680mm.
